Fast Search and Transfer, a Norwegian company with corporate
offices in the United States, provides search technology solutions
for corporate clients as well as powering the Alltheweb internet
search engine. The FAST internet search operation was purchased
by Overture, a world leader in pay-per-click search engine
technology, and then recently acquired by Yahoo.
The Alltheweb Search Engine currently serves Yahoo
Slurp Search Results, which are not powered by the
original FAST Search and Transfer Technology.
History
In terms of internet search technology, Alltheweb was Google's
only real competitor. While Alltheweb lacked market
penetration in the internet search engine industry ( FAST used
the Alltheweb search engine mainly as a show piece for its
other
search engine products and services ).
